Why do we vote on Tuesday?

ElectionlineWeekly:
Why are American voters assigned to vote on the first Tuesday of November? The specific voting day was set up in 1845 to allow the largely agrarian society three days of travel by horse and carriage to vote: a day to get to their county seat, a day to vote, and lastly a day to return. Tuesday was the only reasonable day that could accommodate the American voters’ schedule without falling on days of worship and a market day.
