Barack Obama's deals may leave liberals behind

POLITICO.com:
"Democratic divisions make this task harder since the necessary compromises by Obama will almost certainly come at the expense of the left. The icing on the cake is the return of his old rival, Sen. John McCain (R—Ariz.) who has stepped forward to help on START even as he frustrates Obama’s ability to fulfill his promise to end the ban on gays serving openly in the military.

If a deal can be reached on taxes – and related unemployment issues — by Monday, the hope is the Senate could move next to the arms control treaty with Russia. And with the START debate underway, Appropriations committees—working off the floor—can try to refine a stripped-down spending resolution for the remainder of fiscal 2011."
